Honour for excellence

A Romsey early childhood educator has been acknowledged for her excellence.

Atlanta Tadd was recently named the Bendigo, Goldfields and Macedon Ranges regional winner in the Excellence in Family Day Care Awards.

The awards honour the work of family day care educators and their bonds with the children in their care.

Ms Tadd, who is registered with Our Village Family Childcare, said she was excited to win the award.

“I’ve been in childcare for more than 15 years,” she said. “I had a friend that started in childcare and encouraged me to do it and I just loved it.”

After a two-year stint in a childcare centre caring for up to 15 children, she had decided she preferred working with smaller groups through family day care.

“You’re sharing the day with up to about four children and it’s not hard for them to become part of the family,” she said. “I work with these children and form great bonds with them.”

Family Day Care chief executive Andrew Paterson said the awards continued to shine a light on the important role of family day care.

“The Excellence in Family Day Care Awards highlight the special contribution that educators like Atlanta make to the lives of the children in their care,” Mr Paterson said.

Ms Tadd is in the running to be named a national finalist, with the winners to be announced at a ceremony in September.
