Public toilets will be rebuilt at Kyneton Cemetery.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas recently announced that Kyneton Cemetery Trust would receive a $214,000 grant from the state government’s Cemetery Trust Grants program.
“It’s important our cemeteries have the amenities they need to cater for the thousands of people that visit them every year,” Ms Thomas said.
The funds will be used to build new public toilets at the cemetery, after the previous toilet building was demolished earlier this year because it posed a safety threat.
Kyneton Cemetery Trust secretary Carol McQualter said a number of people had called for toilet facilities to be returned to the 40 acre site.
Residents have used Facebook to applaud the grant announcement and construction work, with one resident posting that it was fabulous news that the toilets would “finally” be reinstated.
The trust will also use the grant to construct a new storage shed to house equipment used to maintain the cemetery.
Ms Thomas thanked the members of the Kyneton Cemetery Trust for their efforts.
“They do an exceptional job maintaining the Kyneton Cemetery,” she said.
