Sunbury’s Olive Stephenson has donated blood more than 100 times

Sunbury’s Olive Stephenson is a bloody hero.

The grandmother has donated blood more than 100 times.

She began giving blood in the ’70s after her children were born and only stopped in recent years when she was medically advised to.

Ms Stephenson said she took her children to watch her donate when they were younger, because she believed it was something they should see and learn about.

The former teacher at Sunbury High, now known as Sunbury College, said she also enjoyed running into her students at the mobile blood bank outside Sunbury Memorial Hall.

She has encouraged everyone who can, to give blood, whether they are young or old.

“You know you’re doing someone good,” she said.

“You’re saving someone’s life.”

The Mobile Donor Centre visits Sunbury several times a year, and is at Barkly Street this week until Friday, June 8.

Appointments to donate are recommended.
