Down to final day in GDCA B-grade

Ashfield and East Sunbury batsmen need to be among the runs this week as both teams try to seal Gisborne and District Cricket Association B-grade finals spots.

Only a disaster will prevent Ashfield from playing finals and a win would put it beyond doubt.

It’s a long way from last season, when it finished bottom and only avoided relegation as the competition was expanded to 10 teams.

Ashfield’s game with Gisborne is evenly poised after the first day.

The Dragons were bowled out for 194 and Jas King took three wickets for Ashfield.

East Sunbury needs everything to go its way against St Anthonys if it is to move into the top four.

The first step is beating the ladder leaders, who have put on another good score with the bat. The Saints are looking for a win to try and seal top spot and made 272 with a number of contributions.

It was a long day for Thunder’s Lachlan Wilkins who took 7-100 off 26.5 overs.

If the Thunder get the win, they need Macedon to knock off Eynesbury or hope Ashfield has a big loss to Gisborne.

Macedon was in control for most of the day against Eynesbury before the Eagles hit back late to put the game on even terms.

Eynesbury was bowled out for 135, before Macedon lost three late wickets to be in trouble at 3-29 at stumps.

Wallan, which is also looking at top spot, is in control against Kyneton. The Magpies are 0-71, in reply to Kyneton’s 156.

In the other match, Riddell made 197 against Bacchus Marsh. The Bulls will resume at 0-3
