The 16th Lancefield/Macedon Ranges Relay for Life event

Teams of locals are warming up for the 16th annual Lancefield/Macedon Ranges Relay for Life event.

This weekend the Macedon Ranges community will come together at Lancefield Park to raise funds for Cancer Council, recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and carers, and to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer.

The patron for this year’s event will be local resident, musician and singer from The Seekers, Athol Guy.

The relay’s opening ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 3 at 3pm, followed by an opening lap to celebrate and support cancer survivors and carers. All survivors and carers are welcome to join – even if they aren’t signed onto a team.

A candle ceremony and tunnel of hope will take place at 8pm, and the relay will end with a closing ceremony at 10am on Sunday, March 4.

So far about 20 teams have signed up to the fundraiser and have already raised close to half of the event’s $80,000 goal.

Organisers are encouraging many more people to get on board the relay and to donate. Registrations are open until the event and fundraising can continue for a month after it.

Past Relay for Life events in the Macedon Ranges have raised more than $1.3 million for the Cancer Council.
