Sunbury no match for Moonee Valley

Sunbury got a clear indication of the gap between it and top side Moonee Valley on Saturday in Bowls Victoria pennant division 1, section 1.

The third-placed Sunbury proved no match for Moonee Valley which won 94 (18)-65 (0) on a tricky green.

Having started earlier to avoid the heat, Mark Cowan’s rink was the best on the day for Sunbury, losing by three shots.

Carla Krizanic’s rink lost by 10, Marc Bullow’s by nine shots and Todd Trewarne’s lost by seven shots.

The loss opens up a bigger gap between Sunbury and the top two sides, with Sunbury now 28 points behind second-placed Glenroy, which also had an 18-0 win.

Sunbury remains in third spot, 21 points ahead of Essendon (2), which Sunbury plays in two weeks. This week, Sunbury faces sixth placed Fitzroy-Victoria.

Saturday was a tough day for Sunbury with just one side, the third team, getting a win.

Meanwhile, the club’s men’s championship has been postponed for a second time. This time due to the heat on Sunday.

Wayne Long and Brad Janner are now expected to play the final this Sunday.
