Police are appealing for witnesses after two dogs were poisoned at a Sunbury property on the night of Sunday, January 21.

One Border Collie died and another was left in a critical condition.

On the same night, a woman was filmed loitering in front of the dogs’ home on Underhill Court.

Police said CCTV footage shows a woman, believed to be caucasian and in her late 30s to early 40s, outside the house where the dogs were living between 10pm and 11.30pm on the night.

Detective senior constable Matthew Wilson-Hawe said the suspect can be “seen loitering for a significant period of time” before she is “chased away” by the house’s resident.

“It’s clear that she’s going to be involved,” the detective said.

But he said police had not identified any reason for the suspected baiting.

He told Star Weekly the suspect had “a partially shaved head” in the footage and was wearing “white, baggy shorts”.

Detective senior constable Wilson-Hawe said the type of poison used had not been identified, but came in the form of “white, round tablets”.

The detective said one dog died on the way to the vet and the second dog was “very ill”.

“It’s going to have brain damage – if it makes it”.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
