A guide to local Australia Day celebrations

Australia’s official national celebration is next week. Friday, January 26 is a national public holiday and a range of celebrations, organised by community groups and sponsored by Macedon Ranges council, will be happening across the region to celebrate the day. See what’s taking place near you:

 

Gisborne

Macedon Ranges Running Club is hosting an Australia Day Fun Run from 8.30am. The free non-competitive, community 5 kilometre fun run/walk through Gisborne parkland is for all ages and abilities. The run/walk starts and finishes at Sankey Reserve, close to other celebrations at John Aitken Reserve.

The GREAT Association is hosting Australia Day celebrations in Gisborne from 9am-noon at John Aitken Reserve. Free brunch prepared by CFA members served from 10.30am. Hand flags and Australia Day tattoos will be on offer.

 

Kyneton

Free breakfast and entertainment from 8-10am at Kyneton Mechanics Institute Reserve, hosted by the Lions Club of Kyneton.

 

Malmsbury

Malmsbury Town Hall Management Committee is putting on a breakfast at the Malmsbury Botanic Gardens from 9am.

 

Riddells Creek

The Field Trip is hosting an event for kids aged 9-17 years. The Other Australia, will be at 3pm at Riddells Creek Neighbourhood House.

 

Woodend

Australia Day flag parade and community barbecue from 10am-3pm at Woodend RSL, Anslow Street. Celebrations will include a flags of all nations march, Aussie morning tea and free barbecue lunch.

Macedon Ranges council will offer free entry to its outdoor pool in Woodend on the day. Details: bit.ly/2CNNNYc

 

Baynton

Baynton Hall Committee hosts Australia Day celebrations from 5.30pm at Baynton Hall. The famous Baynton Gift will be run, including all age groups, the national anthem will be sung, followed by viewing of an iconic Australian movie.

 

Lancefield

Macedon Ranges council will offer free entry to its outdoor pool in Lancefield.

Tylden
