Hanging Rock opens late for picnics

Explorers are being encouraged to pack a picnic and spend summer evenings at Hanging Rock.

Throughout December, January and February, Hanging Rock Reserve will stay open until 8pm on Thursdays and Fridays, giving visitors the chance to linger longer at the famous landmark.

Chief executive Peter Johnston said he hoped the extended hours would bring more visitors.

“Whether you’re a local or visiting the Macedon Ranges from elsewhere, make time to stop by and spend some time at Hanging Rock,” he said.

“There’s plenty of walks, wildlife and history to discover.”

The annual Hanging Rock races are on January 1 and 26, while the classic car show returns in February. Hanging Rock Reserve is open every day (except Christmas Day) 9am–5pm (8pm Thursdays and Fridays during summer). Entry: $4 for pedestrian entry, $10 per car, $20 per minibus, $50 per coach.
