Slides under the pump

A malfunctioning pump has been blamed for the shutdown of AquaPulse’s two waterslides – and it’s unknown when the slides will be re-opened to the public.

The waterslides were first closed three weeks ago on November 13 for maintenance works after an internal valve stopped working correctly, which resulted in coolant leaking out of the internal chamber and allowing water in.

As a result the pump began to overheat.

It was announced the following day that the slides would remain closed until further notice because of the pump malfunction.

Bruce Mackay from Western Leisure Services, the organisation that runs AquaPulse, said work had begun on repairs.

Mr Mackay said it was unclear when the waterslides would re-open, but that WLS was offering patrons alternative options such as inflatables during peak trading periods.

He said there would be no discounts because of the shut down.

AquaPulse, formerly Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre, opened in June 2015 following a $54.4 million facelift.

It’s the second time this year Wyndham leisure facilities have been out of action. In July, parts of Eagle Stadium were shut down to fix a defective gym floor one year after unveiling a $47 million upgrade.
