Police hunt for taxi passenger

Police have appealed for help to identify a man who allegedly assaulted a taxi driver in Wyndham.

On September 23, a taxi picked up two men in Toritta Way, Truganina just after midnight. The driver took them to Sayers Road, near Tarneit Road in Tarneit.

Police said one of the men allegedly started to argue with the driver about the fare. They stepped out of the taxi, still arguing and the driver was struck with a glass bottle, causing cuts around his eye.

The man ran away, but his companion accompanied the taxi driver to the police station. Police called an ambulance and the driver was taken to hospital.

The taxi driver, a Point Cook man aged in his mid-forties, has not returned to work since the incident.

The alleged offender was described as a male with dark hair, wearing an Adidas hooded top.

Police said the second passenger was not involved in the assault, but left the station before officers had a chance to speak with him.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the Wyndham North station on 8734 1100 (ask for reference number 32627).
