September 14, 1977

Bingo, the long-awaited financial “saviour” of charitable and sporting organisations has reached Laverton already and will begin in Werribee next Wednesday. The first permit for the shire was gained by
St. Martins Parish, Laverton, while Werribee’s first games will be run by the RSL with a group of local service and sporting clubs, using the RSL hall as their headquarters.

September 9, 1987

A McDonald’s Family Restaurant, which will open in Hoppers Crossing on 28 September, will create 110 new jobs which will be taken up mainly by local youth. For the past three months, McDonald’s has embarked on a major advertising campaign to attract young people into a career with the company at it’s new Hoppers Crossing store, with an emphasis placed on employing people from the local area.

September 10, 1997

Wyndham was proclaimed a united city when the $8 million North West Link between Hoppers Crossing and Wyndham Vale was officially opened by Minister for Roads and Ports Mr Craige last Wednesday. The announcement drew applause from the crowd of dignitaries and residents, some of whom have waited more than three decades for the opening of the link.

Less than a fortnight after breaking its premiership drought, the Geelong Football Club has scored another major victory. Last week, the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation approved the club’s application for poker machines at the Point Cook Community Sports Club on land in Park Street.
