October 18, 1978

A total of $614,794 in rates was owing to Werribee Shire Council at the end of June, representing 16 per cent of the rate income for the council’s year. The outstanding figure is so high that it has caused a complete reappraisal of the method of rate collection procedures by the shire administration.

October 12, 1988

The Hoppers Crossing Urban Fire Brigade team marched into its new $500,000 fire station, on Sunday. The station, which is opposite the old depot on Derrimut Rd, was officially opened by the chairman of the Country Fire Authority, Mr Ray Greenwood, before a crowd of 300.

Werribee Residents Against Toxic Dump and Wyndham council have hit back at claims by a south-east Melbourne MP that the Wyndham community wanted to see prescribed waste destined for the planned Wyndham toxic dump deposited at an existing site at Lyndhurst. The responses were made to claims by State Liberal MP for Melbourne, Mr Geoff Leigh, whose renewed calls for a Werribee site were reported last weekend in the Sunday Age.

A lack of neo-natal intensive-care units in the west and a statewide maternity-bed shortage is forcing families to travel to the CBD and eastern suburbs to seek care. The Werribee Mercy Hospital, Western Health in Sunshine and the Northern Hospital in Epping can provide “level 2” care for premature babies.
