December 14, 1977

Werribee Shire Council is closely studying a plan which would align Station Street with Duncans Road and allow the construction of a plaza between the war memorial and Werribee Hotel. The proposal, submitted by Werribee Chamber of Commerce would simplify signalisation of the intersection and provide a much-needed area for relaxation in the centre of the town’s busiest intersection.

When 114 Italian descendants get together for a family reunion, there’s bound to be a lot of handshaking or at least leg shaking, as was the case with 86-year-old Maria Menegazzo when she met up with her great grandson in Werribee on Sunday. And the weathered face of the great grandma of eight-week-old Joshua said a lot about the emotion Italian’s generate when they take time out to kick up their heels and let their hair down.

Almost $5 million worth of investment has been put on hold as Wyndham awaits a decision on whether a prescribed waste facility will be built, a report has revealed. The disturbing 45-page report, called Putting Our Lives On Hold, was prepared by the Werribee Residents Against Toxic Dump group and presented to the panel considering submissions on CSR’s plan to build the dump in Werribee.

Wyndham’s status as the second worst municipality in the western metropolitan region for reported incidents of family violence was labelled “disgraceful” by Chaffey Ward councillor Mark Rose last week. Speaking as the council endorsed its family violence action plan for 2008-2010, Cr Rose, also a Werribee police officer, called for immediate action to address the crisis.
