Executive pay packets top MPs

By Goya Dmytryshchak

Western suburbs’ council chief executives are paid more than Premier Daniel Andrews, whose $296,420 base salary is double that of a state MP.

The deputy premier and Opposition Leader receive the base salary plus 85 per cent and 70 per cent loading, respectively.

Hobsons Bay councillors recently voted six-one to give their chief executive a 2 per cent pay rise, bringing Chris Eddy’s total remuneration package to $330,000-$340,000.

There are no additional allowances and he does not receive a car as part of his package.

Wyndham City’s chief executive Kelly Grigsby, appointed in September 2015, is halfway through a four-year contract with a $370,000 package, including superannuation and a vehicle.

Maribyrnong chief executive Stephen Wall received $310,000-$319,999 last financial year.

Brimbank, which currently has an interim chief executive, would only provide the 2015-16 salary of its former head as $330,000-$339,999.

Hume council also provided only the 2015-16 figure of $360,000-369,999.

Hobsons Bay Cr Peter Hemphill at last week’s council meeting voted against a recommendation to accept the outcomes of the 2016-17 annual performance review of Mr Eddy and grant a 2 per increase to his base salary. Cr Hemphill cited pursuance of Mobil land as a factor but did not elaborate.

As reported recently by

Star Weekly, the council decided not to tender for a parcel of Mobil land in Williamstown North against the wishes of proponents of a new sports centre.

Cr Hemphill is on the working group that put forward the sports centre proposal.

He was also on the committee conducting Mr Eddy’s annual performance review, along with mayor Sandra Wilson and deputy mayor Colleen Gates.
