Effort didn’t go to waste

Brookside Preschool is taking part in a recycling challenge as a way of teaching children the benefits of waste management.

Children at the Caroline Springs centre are getting to grips with worm farms and composting as part of Naturale Schools Recycling Right Challenge.

The challenge, part of Planet Ark’s National Recycling Week, is designed to give children an opportunity to learn about responsible waste management and recycling.

Brookside teachers and children have been participating in the School Recycling Games and art and craft activities using reclaimed materials, and enjoying stimulating talks
from waste and environmental education
officers.

Brookside Preschool director Kristy O’Toole said the challenge was all about inspiration.

“At Brookside, we have a commitment to ensure the children gain knowledge about the world around them and are always looking for ways to improve our practices and educate the children, families and the wider community,” she said.

Planet Ark’s recycling campaigns manager, Ryan Collins said the challenge was an important part of National Recycling Week.
