New exhibition Close to you: The Lisa Bellear Picture Show opens 6-8pm Thursday, April 6, at VU MetroWest, 138 Nicholson Street, Footscray.

Mates and mentors

The Mates and Mentors program is inviting applicants to be trained in an innovative cohealth volunteer program to assist people recovering from mental health issues. Volunteers will be matched with clients, to meet for a couple of hours fortnightly. An information session will be held 2pm Tuesday, April 11, at Footscray library.

Raw fun

Join a day of music, beer and paella at Studio Raw Materials, 11am-6pm, Sunday, April 23. Enjoy local craft beer, Spanish paella cooked in oversized pans and music from the likes of John McNamara Soul Band, Andrea Marr and Safari Motel. Free entry, 148 Cowper Street, Footscray.

War mementoes

The Memorials, Mementoes & Memories of War pictorial project will conclude with an exhibition (April 22-25) and an artist talk on Anzac Day, 2-4pm Tuesday, April 25, at Ercildoune, 66 Napier Street, Footscray.

Active expo

Maribyrnong council’s Get Active! expo will be held until April 26 at various locations, with plenty of free clinics, events and ‘come and try’ days.

Setting Sun

The Setting Sun Short Film Festival will be held at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville from April 27 until 30. Entries include quirky comedy, film noir-style fantasies, claymation, and documentaries, made by locals.
