Justice centre expanding
Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre will get $1.6 million from the state budget for training and additional staff in preparation for the centre’s expansion. Last year it was announced the centre will get 45 more beds, taking the total to 135.
Booze, speed cost driver his car
A 21-year-old Sunbury probationary driver will be without his car for 30 days after being caught allegedly travelling at 173km/h on the Calder Freeway near Calrsruhe last Tuesday night. He also allegedly returned a positive breath test of 0.061 per cent. He’s expected to be charged on summons for traffic offences, including speeding and drink-driving.
Better bases for fireys
Volunteer firefighters in Lancefield and Newham will have more modern fire stations after finishing touches were applied to the buildings. In Lancefield, the new $570,000 station includes changing rooms and space to house special vehicles and a trailer. The $700,000 Newham station includes water tanks, a conference room and general purpose rooms.
