Sunbury Jets pay for slow take-off in Big V

The Sunbury Jets were left to rue a slow start against Warrnambool in men’s
Big V division 1 on Saturday night.

Coming off a good win against Craigieburn the week before, the Jets travelled to Warrnambool full of confidence but struggled against a strong Seahawks side, succumbing 86-59.

The Seahawks scored 26 points while restricting the Jets to 10.

The Jets matched it with the Seahawks in the second and third quarters, keeping the margin to 16 points entering the final term. Then Warrnambool put its foot down, extending the lead to 27 by game’s end.

For the Jets, Adam Mitchell top scored with 15 points.

The Jets’ women lost to the Werribee Devils 59-49 in division 1 on Saturday night at Sunbury.

The Jets started the better to take a 15-10 quarter-time lead.

The second quarter saw the Devils reduce its turnovers and score 18 points.

In the “premiership” third term, the Devils shot 25 points to the Jets’ 11.

The big difference between the two sides was in shooting percentages, with the Devils hitting 68 per cent from the field to the Jets’ 29 per cent.

In the final term, the Devils let the Jets back into the game by hitting only one field goal attempt – but the margin was too great for the Jets to close.
