Western Jets crash in second half

Western Jets were obliterated by the Dandenong Stingrays in the second half of their TAC Cup clash at Burbank Oval on Sunday.

The sides went into half-time inseparable on 27 apiece, but the Stingrays turned it on in the second half with a 13-goal-to-one blitz, running out winners 16.16 (112) – 5.6 (36).

Stefan Radovanovic continued his stellar form for the Jets with a second best-on-ground for his side in three weeks. Radovanovic, a bottom-age player out of Keilor, has been in the Jets best in six of his eight games and managed to do so on limited preparation, having missed the pre-season with injury.

Others to impress for the Jets included co-captain Nick Stuhldreier, Josh Mould, Xavier O’Halloran, Riley Ham and Tristan Xerri.

The Jets have fallen to the bottom of the TAC Cup ladder. They will not get a chance to rectify their situation until July 9 when they host the Murray Bushrangers at Burbank Oval.

Meanwhile, Western Jets stars Cameron Rayner and Lachlan Fogarty featured in Vic Metro’s 22-point win over Vic Country in the latest round of the NAB AFL under-18 national championships on Saturday.

Rayner caught the eye with three goals, prompting the draft experts to ponder his validity as a potential high first round draft pick at this year’s national draft.

Fogarty hit the scoreboard with two goals, while getting plenty of touches in the midfield and applying good defensive pressure.

Vic Metro takes on South Australia at Etihad Stadium on Friday at 4.40pm.
