Wallan takes out reserves title

Wallan got some revenge on Rupertswood to claim the Riddell District Football League reserves premiership on Sunday.

The Sharks ended the Magpies unbeaten run in the semi finals, leaving the Magpies to do it the hard way if they were to make the grand final.

Having accounted for Diggers Rest in a preliminary final, the Magpies earned another shot at the Sharks in the grand final.

It was a low scoring affair, with a strong breeze to one end making things hard.

The Sharks had the breeze in the first quarter, but weren’t able to make the most of it, kicking just two goals.

The Magpies kicked three goals with the breeze in the second quarter, to open up a 12-point lead at half time.

The Sharks started to kick away early in the third quarter, but the Magpies were able to respond late.

A goal just before three quarter time, reduced the margin to six points, with Wallan kicking with the breeze in the final quarter.

Full of confidence, the Magpies found their groove and saved their best for last.

They kicked the only three goals of the last quarter, to seal the 9.10 (64)-6.7 (43) win and the premiership.
