Wallan sneaks home against Romsey

Wallan came out on top in a thriller against Romsey in terrible conditions on Saturday in the Riddell District Netball League.

It was the match up of the round on paper and the game didn’t disappoint once it started.

In pouring rain, Wallan led at each of the three breaks and looked to have the game in control, leading by five goals at the final break.

The Redbacks saved their best for last, with a 10-6 final term,  but fell short losing 31-30.

Magpies shooter Chloe Meulenmeesters shot 25 goals from 33 attempts for the Magpies, while Rebecca Hicks shot 23 goals for the Redbacks.

Georgia Bowkett and Danni Jane Umaki were named the best for their respective teams.

The win cements the Magpies spot in the top three, while Romsey sits in fourth six points behind Wallan.

Diggers Rest maintains its spot in the top six  with a solid win against Lancefield.

In wet and slippery conditions, the Burras beat Lancefield 35-20.

The Burras broke open the game in the second quarter before getting the lead out to 15 goals at three quarter.

The game was then called off due to the weather.

Macedon was too strong for Melton Centrals 49-23. It was close for the first quarter, before the second-placed Cats shot away.

Caitlyn Alifraco was the Cats best.

Riddell defeated Broadford 40-35. Scores were level at three-quarter time before the Bombers ran away with it in the last quarter.

Emma Wallmeyer was named the Bombers best.

Rupertswood and Woodend-Hesket were the lucky teams of the weekend, with their matches played in the comfort of indoors.

Ladder leaders Rupertswood had a big win,  beating the Hawks 61-18. Both sides were missing key players.

The Hawks are now two games outside the top six.
