Tough weekend for Jets

It was a tough weekend for the Sunbury Jets in the Big V state championship competitions, both falling short against local rival the Hume City Broncos.

In a double header, the Jets women started the day followed by the men’s side at Boardman Stadium on Sunday.

The Jets women’s side is without a win after the first two rounds, also losing to the Broncos.

Both sides entered the game looking for their first win of the season.

The Broncos started the better of the two sides and led by seven points at the first break.

The Jets, who are missing several key players, were able to reduce the margin to four points at the last break.

The Jets pushed the scoreboard in the third quarter and took the lead in the third quarter, leading by three points at the last break.

The Broncos found another level in the last quarter, winning it 22-12, to claim the overall win 71-64.

Chloe Hildebrand top discord with 16 points for the Jets, while Maddison Ford provided 15 points off the bench.

The men’s side suffered its first loss of the season.

In a rematch of last season’s semi final final, it was the Broncos that got the ascendancy early in the piece.

The Broncos jumped out of the blocks to lead 30-13 at quarter time and were able to make the margin 22 points at the main break.

With the Broncos extending the lead to 25 points at the last break, the two benches came on late.

The Broncos finished the game by winning the final quarter, to win 102-74.

Every Jets player took to the court with Maxwell Barkeley top scoring with 15 points. He was the only Jets player to reach double figures, with Ish Sanders restricted to just eight points, with only eight field goal attempts.

The Jets women’s side is without a win after the first two rounds, also losing to the Broncos.

Both sides entered the game looking for their first win of the season.

The Jets women’s side faces the Bulleen Boomers this week, while the men’s side is on the road against Melbourne University.

The Jets youth league 1 women’s side suffered losses to the Coburg Giants, 83-73, and Craigieburn, 83-70.

The Jets youth league 2 men’s side beat Southern Peninsula, 111-52.
