Things are looking positive on the track for Lancefield ahead of the Riddell District Football League season.
Having put in a lot of hard work behind the scenes the last couple of seasons, the work has continued under new coach Tim Bannan.
Bannan said things had been going well, but they wouldn’t know where they sit until the season starts.
“Everyone has been training hard,” he said. “We’ve got good numbers which makes it easier. The feedback from the players it’s an improvement on last season.
“We need to have numbers at training. We need the depth and the numbers for the twos. They’ve been training at a high standard.”
Bannan said they had been able to add in some experienced players to help support the young guys.
He said they had been lucky with a couple of players falling into their laps.
“Zach Webb has played a lot in the Sunraysia region,” he said. “He moved to Kilmore and was driving through the town. He stumbled across us and he’s a Tigers supporter and he wanted to play in a Tigers jumper.
“He’s played a lot of football.”
Callan Randell is another experienced player to join the club. Joel Regan, who Bannan coached at Leitchville Gunbower last season, also joins the club and will take on a bit of a mentoring role.
At the other end, the Tigers have added some more young talent.
Riley O’Meara has put in a clearance to return to the club. Jack Radford has crossed from Riddell as has Lachie Giles.
Both were coached by Bannan at Riddell.
Bannan said they were confident they were on the right track.
“We’re hoping for improvement,” he said. “It’s been a tough few years and we know it won’t happen overnight, but we’re heading in the right direction.
“Speaking to others, the guys need a bit more consistency. That comes with fitness and more game time and more rotations.”
