Eleven was the number of the day between Sunbury and Essendon (2) in Bowls Victoria Pennant division 1, section 1.
Playing on the 11th of the 11th, all four rinks were separated by 11 shots as the two sides finished 79 shots apiece.
Marc Bullows rink won 24-13 and Mark Cowan’s rink won 27-16 to give Sunbury two rink wins, while Todd and Shane Trewarne’s rinks both lost 25-14, meaning each team took home nine points apiece.
It’s the first time Shane Trewarne has been a skip this season in a tactical change. Elise Cowan, who had been skipping, moved to the third in her father’s rink.
Despite sitting above Essendon on the ladder, Sunbury’s David Glennon said it was always difficult to get a win at Windy Hill. Sunbury trailed heading into the final end, before a Todd Trewarne shot tied the match.
Peter White, who led for Bullows’ rink, and Mark Cowan, were the standouts for Sunbury in the tie.
Despite the result, Sunbury remains in fourth, but the gap has closed with fifth-placed Melton beating third-placed Werribee.
The top two sides, Glenroy and Moonee Valley, remain unbeaten and have a gap on the rest of the pack.
Overall it was a good day for Sunbury, with four teams getting the win along with the top side tieing. The second side, which started the season 0-4, made it two wins in a row, to move to 2-4. The pennant competition will have a break this weekend.
