Sunbury United Tigers returned to form against Northern Thunder with a big win in NRL Victoria first grade.
Having had one of their more disappointing performances in their last match, the Tigers showed more of the form that has them second on the ladder.
Leading by a try at half-time, the Tigers took it up a level in the second half, winning 44-24.
Tigers coach Terry Constantinou said it was pleasing to put some good football on the park.
Having had a bye last round, he said there had been plenty of time to think about their loss to Waverley Oakleigh Panthers.
“For us, the loss was a good opportunity to rebuild after a few wins in a row,” he said.
“You can get complacent. We sat down and addressed a few things and we came out this week and played well.”
Constantinou said the Thunder were a bogey side for the club, with the Tigers losing the first match-up between them this season.
He said the key was to run out the game well.
“There were good contributions from everyone,” he said.
“We came into half-time with a try lead. The key was fitness, as you can lose structures under fatigue.
“I said the game wouldn’t be won at the start of the second half, but the last 10 minutes.
“We scored three tries in the last 10 minutes.”
The Tigers sit second on the ladder, four points behind ladder leaders Werribee Bears.
The Tigers are the only team to beat the Bears this season.
Constantinou said the win had given them a lot of confidence going forward.
“They are the benchmark and we thought if we could go close, or knock them off, it would hold us in good stead come finals.
“Everything just clicked … We have the cattle, it’s about getting everyone going at once.”
Constantinou said their aim was to make sure that they cemented a top two spot and a double chance.
He said not only were the results starting to come the side’s way, there was also a good vibe around the club.
