Sunbury has put in a strong performance to keep in touch with the top sides in Bowls Victoria Pennant division 1, section 1.
Looking to bounce back after a close loss the previous round to Moonee Valley, Sunbury did the job against Fitzroy Victoria with a 93 (16)-68 (2) win.
The rink of Todd Trewarne did most of the damage, winning 43-15, with Paul Cullis the standout.
After two matches with Sunbury, Trewarne is undefeated.
His rink was one of two rinks that scored a rare eight shots off one end.
Elise Cowan’s rink scored an eight on the final end to turn a seven-shot deficit into a one-shot win.
Mark Cowan’s rink also had a win, while Marc Bullows’ rink suffered its first loss of the season.
The win has Sunbury sitting fourth after five rounds.
Sunbury’s David Glennon said the win would give the side plenty of confidence. Its only losses have come against the two undefeated sides.
“As long as we keep on their coat tails, we should be in the mix,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sunbury’s Carla Krizanic has been knocked out in the World Bowls Champion of Champions singles competition in the elimination final in New South Wales.
She lost 5-0 in a tie-breaker to Malaysia’s Emma Saroji.
