Season over for Sunbury Lions

Sunbury Lions’ season has come to end in the Western Region and Essendon District Women’s Football League.

Fighting for a grand final spot in the competition’s first season, the Lions needed to turn the tables on Manor Lakes, which won the regular season encounter between the two sides.

It was an even first quarter with both teams kicking a goal each, with the Lions leading by two points.

Not much separated the teams at half time, with Manor Lakes taking a slight five point margin into the second half.

They call the third quarter the premiership quarter and it proved to be that for Manor Lakes.

They kicked three goals and kept the Lions goal less to lead by 22 points at the final break.

There was no comeback from the Lions, with Manor Lakes winning 7.3 (45)-3.6 (24).

Manor Lakes will now face Keilor in the grand final on Sunday at Greenvale Recreation Reserve

While the senior side won’t be playing next week, the Lions youth league girls are looking to complete the perfect season.

The Lions face Pascoe Vale in the grand final at 12.30pm on Sunday at Greenvale. The Lions most recently defeated Pascoe Vale in the semi finals, by 36 points.
