Sunbury Lions remain undefeated after three rounds in the Western Region and Essendon District Women’s Football League.
After strong wins in the first two rounds, the Lions faced surprise packets Craigieburn on Sunday.
The Eagles also entered the match undefeated having won their first two matches in their inaugural season.
The Lions set the win up early on Sunday, kicking 3.3 to nothing in the first quarter.
By half-time the lead was out to 30 points.
The Lions kicked further ahead in the third quarter, holding the Eagles to a scoreless quarter for the second time.
Neither side could have much impact on the scoreboard in the final term, but it didn’t matter with the Lions having already sealed the win.
The final score was 6.11 (47)-1.3 (9).
The Lions now face Caroline Springs, which is coming off its first win, on Sunday.
It isn’t just the Lions’ senior women who have started the season well – the youth league girls side is also undefeated.
They had a bye at the weekend, but started the season on fire with four 100-plus point wins. The Lions have only conceded one point.
The Lions under-15 team sits 1-2 after a 8.13 (61)-1.0 (6) loss to Essendon Doutta Stars on Sunday in EDFL under-15 youth girls division 2.
The Lions under-12 girls in their first season are without a win after three rounds. On Sunday they lost to Moonee Valley 7.4 (46)-0.0 (0)
