The Sunbury Kangaroos showed their strength on Saturday against Strathmore in the Essendon District Football League women’s premier division.

Coming off a 159-point win the previous round, the Kangaroos looked ominous early on against an undermanned Mores, who had just 15 players.

The Kangaroos, who played with 16 on the field, led 36-0 at quarter-time and were leading 8.6 (54)-0.0 (0) when the game was called off in the second quarter.

The Mores suffered an injury and decided not to play on and risk more injuries.

Kate Edney kicked three goals for the Kangaroos, while Louise Martino chipped in with two goals.

Forward Bronte Koutras had been a standout for the Kangaroos, along with winger Brittany Mifsud.

The win is the Kangaroos fourth and moves them up to fourth on the ladder. This week they play third-placed Burnside Heights, the only team they haven’t beaten in the past two seasons.

The match on Saturday afternoon will be played before the club’s men’s senior sides do battle in a twilight game.

In other games, the Sunbury Lions got their second win of the season, beating Craigieburn 8.6 (54)-1.3 (9).

Jacinta Lee kicked three goals for the winners, while Sera Catania, Jessica Rowe and Kiara Hiatt were their best.

The win moves the Lions into seventh spot.

The Lions this week face the big improvers in the competition, Hillside, on Friday night.

Other winners were Burnside Heights, Pascoe Vale and Keilor.
