Sunbury Jets’ hot streak in the Big V men’s division 1 competition has continued with a hard-fought win against the Collingwood All Stars.
Having lost to the All Stars the last time the two teams met, the Jets were keen to get one back over them.
In a close game all night, the Jets came away with the win, 89-85.
Jets coach Ryan Addison said it was a match they were keen on winning.
“It was one of those things that it was going to take some time to play some better basketball,” he said.
“It was good to get the win over them. We were missing Arthur Trousdell and a couple of other guys have injuries.
“We were able to sort it out late in the game and played some really good basketball.”
The Jets shared the scoring around as six players, including all five starters, scored double figures.

Addison said making sure they were unpredictable at the scoring end was something they wanted to focus on.
“We want to feed the hot hand. The guys are taking to it and are happy to do that.”
Not for the first time this season, Ish Sanders was the standout.
Sanders, who scored 35 points on Saturday night, is now averaging 28.29 points a game, second most in the division.
Addison said like the team, Sanders was getting better as the season goes on.
“It has been coming,” he said of Sanders’ form.
“It’s a different group to last time he was here. It’s taken some time to fit in and while he hasn’t had any bad games, he’s starting to have those high scoring games.”
The win, the Jets’ seventh in a row, cements their spot at the top of the table as the competition heads into a bye weekend.
It has been a number of years since the Jets have found themselves in first spot, let alone won that many matches in a row.
Addison said while he thought they would be among the top-four teams come season’s end, he was thrilled with how they’ve performed so far.
“If we could lock in top spot, it would put us in good stead come finals. But there’s a lot of basketball to come before we think about that.”
It was a good night all round for the Sunbury Jets as their women’s side had a strong win against the Keilor Thunder.
The Jets did the damage in the middle two quarters in the 72-60 win.
Lynn Leaupepe top scored for the Jets with 15 points, as they spread the scoring around.
The win is their seventh in a row.
