Sunbury Jets produced one of their better performances of the season, to get their second win of the Big V men’s division 1 season.
In what has been a tough start for the Jets, who have been on the wrong end of some blowouts, they showed fight and determination against Bulleen Boomers.
After a poor third quarter left them trailing by 13 points at the last break, the Jets found another level in the last quarter.
Outscoring the Boomers 27-15, the Jets won 80-78.
Jets coach Ryan Addison said it was a relief to get that second win on the board.
He said they thought they may have been in trouble at three-quarter time, but the group stepped it up on the defensive end.
“The boys are putting in the work, it’s been about putting it together and getting that consistency.
“Gelling together has been a lot of the problem, but bringing in some older guys who have come back like Arthur [Trousdell] and Tips [Te Puao Silver] has helped.”
Jonathan Alexander top-scored with 25 points, while skipper Jacob Formosa scored 21 points.
Silver, last season’s captain, was a handy contributor in his first game of the season.
Addison said everyone contributed on both ends of the court.
He said he hoped the win would kickstart their season, despite the challenge ahead of them this week.
They face Warrnambool Seahawks, who have regained the services of Australian player, Nathan Sobey.
The Jets’ women’s side ended a two game losing streak in the State Championship division.
The Jets started well early against Keilor Thunder and were able to get out to a comfortable lead at three-quarter time. Despite losing the final quarter, the Jets won 69-54.
The Jets two youth league sides remain undefeated in division 1. The youth league women’s side won 77-49 against Camberwell Dragons and the men’s side won 89-77.
