Sunbury finish with a draw

Sunbury finished its Bowls Victoria weekend pennant division 1, section 1 season with a draw on Saturday.

Already out of finals contention and having secured its spot in division 1 for next season, Sunbury was playing for pride against top side Moonee Valley in the final round.

Sunbury was able to match it with Moonee Valley, with the teams finishing 71 shots apiece. Sunbury would come away with 11 points compared to Moonee Valley’s seven in a good result for the side.

Paul Callus’ rink won 16-13, Mark Cowan’s rink won 19-18 and Lee Wesley’s rink won 18-15.

Sunbury remained in eighth spot despite the result.

The club’s fifth and sixth sides are still alive in the finals, while the club has several mid week sides in finals.

In the Central Highlands Bowls Division, Kyneton Golf is the first team through to the division 1 grand final.

Golf beat Gisborne in the semi finals 77 (16)-48(0).

Gisborne will play Lancefield in the preliminary final, after Lancefield beat Romsey 68 (14)-44 (2) in the knock out semi final.

Kyneton Golf is also through to the grand final in division 2, after beating Woodend 63 (14)-55 (2).

Woodend will face Romsey in the preliminary final, after Romsey beat Macedon 65 (13)-58 (3).

In division 3, Gisborne is through to the grand final, while Diggers Rest and Macedon will play off in the grand final.
