Sunbury falls short against Moonee Valley

Sunbury got a true indication of where it sits in Bowls Victoria Pennant, division 1, section 1 on Saturday.

In a battle between the top two sides, Sunbury struggled to match it with ladder leaders Moonee Valley.

Using their home green to their advantage, Moonee Valley came away with a 85 (16)-66 (2) win.

Sunbury’s David Glennon said it was always going to be a challenge to come away with the win at Moonee Valley.

He said Moonee Valley is an exciting up and coming team which is the bench mark of the competition.

Todd Trewarne’s rink was the only winning rink for Sunbury, winning 23-18.

Glennon said that rink had been down at tea, before picking up six shots in one end to hit the front and they were able to stay there.

Lee Wesley’s rink lost 21-9, Mark Cowan’s rink lost 24-15 and Carla Krizanic’s rink lost for the first time this season, losing 22-19.

Glennon said the result showed the gap between the two sides.

“We know what we have to improve on and how to get better.”

Despite the loss, Sunbury remains second that Glennon said they would have been happy with preseason.

It was a mixed day for Sunbury, with three of their six teams winning.

There is no Bowls Victoria action this weekend, with the Vic Open running this week.

Glennon said they would have about 10 players competing across singles, pairs and triples.
