Sunbury will get the chance to test itself against the best this week in Bowls Victoria Pennant, division 1, section 1.
In a good test to start the run home, Sunbury will face ladder leader Moonee Valley at Sunbury.
The two teams are the clear leaders in the competition.
Moonee Valley has already sealed a top-two finish. A good result this weekend will allow Sunbury to do the same.
Sunbury’s David Glennon said the players were looking forward to the challenge.
“Moonee Valley have only lost one game and we’ve lost two games,” he said.
“A good win here we could take top spot and it would be good to finish in that position.”
On Saturday, Sunbury faced bottom side Flemington-Kensington.
While Sunbury had a convincing win 92 (14)-61 (4) win, it claimed victory in only two of the four rinks.
Glennon said the players weren’t expecting to drop two rinks to the bottom side.
Lee Wesley’s rink won 30-15, while Todd Trewarne’s rink a big 29-9 victory.
Mark Cowan’s rink lost 17-14 and Carla Krizanic’s rink lost 20-19.
Glennon said Marc Bullows, who was in Trewarne’s rink, was the standout for Sunbury.
Meanwhile, the club held the finals of its club championship last week.
Mark Cowan claimed his fourth title, beating Clive Moffat 25-11.
The women’s final was a lot closer, with Krizanic getting across the line against Sharon Whana.
Krizanic did enough to win 25-21 and claim her fifth club championship.
