A trio of Sunbury basketballers are fine-tuning their crossover dribbles and post-up moves ahead of Basketball Australia’s national club championships.

Former Kismet Park Primary School pupils Imogen Wardley, Abby Hildebrand and Jade Dunne (pictured) will join their Diamond Valley teammates at the titles in Maitland, NSW, from September 26 until October 1.

Diamond Valley, aka the Eagles, was among 24 under-14 teams around Australia invited to take part. All three year 7 girls are on student athlete scholarships at Maribyrnong Secondary College.

They represented Vic Metro in this year’s Southern Cross Challenge and also compete in Sunbury’s domestic competition. Imogen and Abby play for Superoos, while Jade plays for Rupertswood.

Imogen’s father, Daniel, says the Eagles have started a crowdfunding campaign to help families meet expenses.

“Their team was invited after topping the state … to play in a national tournament like this is sure going to be a great opportunity.”
