Riddells Creek sprinter Jessie Andrew, 16, has her sights set on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after winning gold in the 200m, open medley and 4x100m relay at last month’s Oceania Melanesian regional athletics championships in Fiji.

Bouncing back from a tibia stress fracture that sidelined her last year, the Maribyrnong Sports College student powered her way to victory against some of the best talent her age group has to offer.

“It was very exciting,” she says.

“It was just a great experience to compete against that level of competition and see where I’m really at.

“The relay, especially, was a real achievement … we hadn’t met before.”

Jessie will take a short break from competitive running before ramping up preparations for school competitions in September.
