Sunbury United will become just the second club in Australia to host Soar Football Academy’s UK football trials.
The trials, run under the watchful eyes of overseas’ coaches, managers and recruiters, is a big boost for the club.
United vice-president Paul Di Blasi said they hope the trials will be an annual event and help build the club’s profile.
He said 100 senior and 50 junior players will come from across Australia for the trials and a chance at $2000 in flights and accommodation to trial with an English Premier League club.
“It’s great exposure for the club,” he said. “It’s something we’ve been working on for a while, and it means a lot.
“The academy is run really well and has really good coaches.”
The trials will include two days of training in all age groups, and include information sessions on what it takes to be a professional.
Among the visitors will be Micky Adams, who has been a player and manager at EPL clubs, Manchester United Soccer Schools’ international head coach Robin Van Der Laan, former pro goalkeeper Mark Grew and current Premier League scout Anthony Williams.
Di Blasi said local coaches and players alike will get the chance to learn from the coaches and recruiters.
“On the middle day, there’s a two-hour experience for Sunbury players with the coaches,” he said.
