Sunbury will enter the finals on the back of a disappointing loss in Bowls Victoria Pennant division 1, section 1.
Guaranteed to finish third, Sunbury lowered its colours to Brunswick on Saturday.
Brunswick, already out of finals, won 74 (16)-67 (2).
Sunbury’s David Glennon said the match was close all day and could have gone either way. Wayne Long’s rink was the only winning one for Sunbury, with 19-14.
Todd Trewarne’s rink lost on the last end, 21-20, while Mark Cowan’s rink lost 22-14 and Carla Krizanic lost 17-14.
“It’s always difficult to beat them on their green,” Glennon said.
“From memory, we had a close game against them in round nine. It would have been nice heading into finals on the back of a win, but it wasn’t to be.”
Sunbury faces Glenroy in the semi-finals on Saturday and the winner progresses to Sunday’s grand final against the winner of Moonee Valley and Fitzroy Victoria.
Glennon said Sunbury would enter its semi-final as underdogs.
“All the pressure is on Glenroy and anything can happen in finals,” he said.
“I rate us a good chance to beat Glenroy.”
Sunbury’s Brad Janner is through to Thursday’s final of the Champion of Championships tournament.
