Sunbury suffered a shock loss against Buckley Park in Bowls Victoria division 2, section 2 on Saturday.
The top of the table Sunbury was expected to easily account for the lowly ranked Buckley Park, but were upset in a 85 (14) – 79 (4) loss at Sunbury.
Brad Janner, again filling in for Carla Odgers who is on Australian duties, won his rink 17-16 and Mark Cowan won his rink 24-10.
Deeon Dean’s rink lost 31-15, while Mark Clohesy in his debut as skipper lost his rink 27-23.
Sunbury’s Dave Glennon said the loss wasn’t due to the club missing two of their normal skippers, Odgers and Elise Cowan.
“It was a game we were expected to win against a team which had only won one game.
“Brad Janner, who has filled in for Carla, has won both weeks, while Mark [Clohesy] only went down by four shots. It’s good to give these guys a chance of skippering.”
Odgers and Elise Cowan will again miss this week when Sunbury take on Lalor (2).
“Lalor is another side down towards the bottom of the ladder, so it’s another game we need to win.”
Despite the loss Sunbury remained on top of the ladder. They are one point clear of West Coburg (2).
