Sanders returns to Jets

One of the Sunbury Jets greatest ever players will be back on at Boardman Stadium this Big V men’s championship season.

After some late changes to the roster, the Jets have been able to sign two imports for this year after not planning to have any.

Among the two late signings is Ish Sanders.

Sanders in his two previous stints has become a club legend at the Jets.

Jets coach Nathan Heywood said the signing of Sanders was not only big for the side, but the whole club and community.

He said Sanders was a fan favourite in his previous stints, with some of those fans set to share the practice court and even the game court with him.

“It is going to be huge, not only are we bringing back a club legend but someone who really fits in and lives and breathes our community,” he said.

“He is also a league MVP, league leading scorer, championship winning player from our club there is no one better to bring back .

“He will elevate our levels.”

Sanders last played for the Jets in 2023 when he guided the side to the grand final series.

He was named the league’s most valuable player and named in the all-star five team.

Sanders finished second in the league’s scoring with an average of 28.5 points per game. The guard also averaged almost five assists a game.

It was his fourth season with the Jets.

Sanders has also previously won a division 1 championship with the Jets, led the scoring and won a division 1 most valuable player in that same year.

Also joining the Jets is BB Chuks-Mady.

The Jets announced last week that he will join the Jets from division 1 club Altona Gators.

He averaged 17 points and eight rebounds a game last season.

Heywood said he would help fill the void in the paint.

“The last three years we haven’t had that paint presence,”he said. “I’m really excited to coach someone who will help fill that void.

“His size, athleticism and basketball IQ on both ends will help create opportunities for the whole squad. His footwork for a big guy and ability to find teammates when under pressure will be keys to success this season.

“He is a really great guy as well. He is going to fit in the community and help with our kids and elevate them as well.”

Chuks-Mady was set to arrive in Australia last week ahead of the season kicking off in late March.
