Sanders back in the fold at Sunbury Jets

The season has barely ended, but the Sunbury Jets have already announced a first signing for next year’s Big V division 1 men’s side.

The Jets, who had a tough year with only six wins for the season, will bring back star import Ish Sanders for next season.

Sanders played just one season with the Jets, in 2016, and averaged 28 points a game. He was named a Big V men’s division 1 all-star 5 member and won the Jets most valuable player award.

The club is hoping his re-signing will be the first step in helping the men’s side reach new heights.

Sanders said he had stayed in touch with the Jets since leaving the club.

“We spoke several times about me returning to Sunbury but the circumstances didn’t allow it as I was to go play in Spain,” he said.

“Finally this year we spoke again and the opportunity presented itself.

“I chose to come back to Sunbury because of the impact the people and the organisation left on me.

“I am very grateful that this wonderful organisation considered having me come back to represent them.

“I cannot wait to reunite, catch up, and hopefully entertain everyone.”

Sanders said he planned on leading the side on and off the court to help them rise back up the ladder.

“On the court, I plan to do what I do, on a much higher level than before.”

Sunbury director of coaching Kennedy Kereama said it was an easy decision to bring Sanders back to the club.

“Ish had an amazing connection with the people and community here,” he said.

“His character, work ethic, energy and community spirit made him a celebrity at the club. This is without even talking about his playing ability.

“There is no doubt that he will make a major impact on the men’s team next season. Now for the club it’s a matter of retaining and recruiting players to complement his talents.”

Since leaving Sunbury Sanders has been playing in Spain and has gained his college degree.
