Romsey turned up the defensive pressure on Diggers Rest in a Riddell District Netball League elimination final.

Coming off a loss in the final round of the season, the Redbacks were switched on from the get go against the Burras.

It would be a comprehensive win for the Redbacks, winning 48-18.

Redbacks coach Luke Marko Rawlings was thrilled with the result.

“It was a really strong performance and it was good to see,” he said.

“Finals has made us step up and the goal was to win the first final. It was a good result.

“Last time we played them, we beat them by seven goals. To come away with a win like this, is really good.”

Marko Rawlings said it was pleasing to know that the side could step it up when really needed.

He said the defensive pressure was what set the tone for the rest of the game.

“DJ [Danni Jane Umaki] and [Stef]  Symes both played out of their skins,” he said.

“The pressure throughout the rest of the court, caused turnover after turnover.”

Rebecca Hicks was the best shooter on court, with 34 goals from 42 attempts.

Overall, the Redbacks shot at 86 per cent.

The Burras in comparison shot at 48 per cent, well below what they would have liked.

Marko Rawlings said the difference in the shooting played a huge part. He said the two defenders had made it hard for the Burras shooters.

“The pressure they put with arms over the ball and they stayed in play, which was so good,” he said.

“We took advantage of positioning under the post and getting rebounds.

“Shooting over 80 per cent, you’re pretty much going to get the win most times.”

The Redbacks now face Macedon in a knock out semi final on Sunday.

Marko Rawlings said they were looking forward to it.

Romsey won the last meeting between the two teams.

“We’re really excited for it,” Marko Rawlings said.

“We watched them play on Saturday. They’re a really good team, hopefully we will come away with it.

Rupertswood will play Wallan in the other semi final, with a grand final spot on the line.
