Three extra holes were needed in one of the quarter finals in the Romsey Golf Club W.E Tom Shield on Saturday.

After warm conditions greeted golfers in the quarter finals and those competing in the daily Saturday competition.

There were a few surprises in the W.E Tom Shield early, as a couple of high handicappers parred the first few holes giving their opposition quite a scare.

In the end the more fancied teams came out on top.

Anthony Lakey and Hugh Williams claimed victory on the 21st hole against Scott Williams and Davie Kenney. The team of Williams and Kenney had a shot out of bounds and a lost ball on the final hole to end their chances.

In the other quarter finals, Jim Patton and Mick Squires defeated Ron Walker and Keith Hocking, Malcolm Mottram and Steven Wilkins defeated Clive Mensforth and John Freestone, and Ryan Davies and Simon Donovan defeated Andrew and John Laing.

In the semi finals, Lakey and Williams will play Patton and Squire and Mottram and Wilkins will face Davies and Donovan.

In the Ambrose competition, Andrew and Mitch Clement won from Mitch Atlas and Joshua Squire.

In the Wednesday competition, rain held off for most of the competition as they faced a difficult wind.

Eight players enjoyed the chance to get out on the course and handled the recently cored greens well.

Roger Baker and Darlene Baker won ahead of Hugh Williams and Robert Slade, and Kath Jekabsons andJenny Hartley.
