Peta Edebone Cup coming to Sunbury

Sunbury Softball Association will host the fourth round of the Softball Victoria Peta Edebone Cup later this month.

Hosting a round of the tournament is massive for the small association, with the competition one of Softball Victoria’s biggest.

The Peta Edebone Cup consists of four teams made up of the best female players from across the state. They play an eight round competition, with the top two teams to play off in the grand final in December.

Sunbury secretary Cath Kelly said they were thrilled to get the opportunity to have a round at the club.

“Being a small association and only having two diamonds, it makes it hard to host big events,” she said.

“Softball Victoria approached us about hosting a round.

“To be able to bring out elite players to Sunbury and to give young softballers the opportunity to meet these players is incredible.”

Kelly said they didn’t often get the opportunity to host events like this, so they wanted to get as many people down watching as possible.

There is a local connection to the cup, with Sunbury Softball Association’s Danielle Baxter part of the Black Storm team.

Kelly said it was hard to get players selected in the teams, so it was massive for the club to have someone gain selection.

Round four of the Peta Edebone Cup starts at 7pm on October 30 at the Sunbury diamond, which is located on Lancefield Road, Sunbury.
