Sunbury United will have a new senior coach next season with Lino Grech standing down as coach of the club’s FV state league 3 north-west team.
The club announced on social media they were searching for a new coach for next season before thanking Grech for his time in the head role.
“Our senior coaches will not be returning in 2023 with Lino Grech, a former player stepping down after six years as the first team coach,” he said.
“Lino’s passion for the game and love for the club can never be questioned. He was instrumental in building a great group of players and often went above the standard coaching duties.
“He is much loved by all at SUFC and we wish him all the very best in whatever he chooses to do. He has left a mark on this club and for this we will be forever grateful.”
The club’s reserves coach Chris Egboyi has also stepped down from his role.
Egboyi held the role for two years.
“When approached, Chris never hesitated and immediately stepped up and for the next two years has led the reserves admirably – his desire to succeed and passion for his boys has made him a much-loved figure at the club,” the club said.
“We thank both gentlemen for their service to SUFC.”
The club has advertised for both roles, hoping to find coaches that bring passion, dedication and a strong positive energy to further enhance the club culture.
The senior side finished fifth in the state league 3 north-west season, after falling away in the second half of the season.
“After having a great start to season 2022, we believe that SUFC have the potential to aspire for bigger things,” the club said.
“The incoming coaches will be working in partnership with other SUFC coaches and assisting the committee with recruitment and retention, as well as improving players not only as footballers but individuals to deliver success.”
