McKinstry voted out

Bendigo Football Netball League chair Carol McKinstry has lost her seat on the league’s board.

The league on Monday hosted its annual general meeting held on 14 January where it confirmed its board of directors.

The league said the board brings together a strong mix of experience, governance expertise and community connection, and will play a critical role in guiding the league through the next phase of its strategic direction.

Carol McKinstry, Andy Walker and Sam McGee won’t continue on the new board.

Some clubs had tried to oust McKinstry late last year, but weren’t successful.

It came after Gisborne’s failed attempt to leave the competition.

The league in a statement paid tribute to the three outgoing board members.

“A pioneer of community sport governance, Carol has been a dedicated board member for 12 years including 10 years as chair of the board,” the league said.

“Carol’s dedication, leadership and governance expertise has been pivotal to the BFNL’s progression and sustainability.

“A board member for more than 10 years, Andy always advocated for clubs in all Board decisions and was a key conduit between the league and the City of Greater Bendigo regarding BFNL club facilities.

“Sam McGee has provided the BFNL with more than 10 years’ service volunteering his legal expertise to the League and standing up for what was best for the League when required.”

Jeremy Brown, Craig Findlay, Brett Fitzpatrick, Todd Deary, Caleb Kuhle, Keely McDonald, Ellyse McNish, Colin Rosa and Rick Townsend have been elected board members for this year.

As per the BFNL constitution, a chair of the BFNL will be elected by the board at the first meeting of the board held after the annual general meeting of the league.

“In 2026, the board will focus on aligning governance and decision-making with the BFNL strategic plan, with key priorities including competition growth, financial sustainability, strong club support, participation pathways and the ongoing AFL Victoria RAC strategies project.”
