McIntyre Cup hopefuls in tense tussles for crucial points

The battle for the Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s McIntyre Cup top four could take another twist this weekend.

With the top four sides in the middle of two two-day clashes, results are vital.

Gisborne is on top in its clash with Diggers Rest Bulla.

The Burras struggled with the bat and struggled to 101. Steven Fogarty was the only batsman to fire, making 46.

Jason Wilson and Jay King took three wickets each for the Dragons.

The Dragons made a shaky start with the bat, losing Simon Harman and Riley Vernon before stumps.

The Dragons will resume on 2-37.

Ladder leader Sunbury was without playing coach Justin Nelson, who has an injured hand.

He watched on as Sunbury made 218 against Woodend.

Jack Landt top scored with 65, with Warren Else the best of the bowlers for Woodend with four wickets.

Woodend survived two overs at the end of the day and will resume at 0-4.

Riddell, which is just over one point outside the top four, is continuing its hot run of form and could jump into the top four after this round.

Having won their last three games, the Bombers are on top against Rupertswood.

The Bombers bowled Rupertswood out for 91.

Jack Baker took four wickets and new recruit James Hughes took 3-15.

Hughes, a multiple McIntyre Cup premiership winning captain-coach, has joined the Bombers from Sunbury United.

Bacchus Marsh is on track for victory against Romsey after posting a massive 9-271.

Dennis O’Loughlin fell three runs short of a century when he was run out on 97.

Taylor Stevenson took three wickets for Romsey.
