Lancefield coach Ashley Manning has parted ways with the Riddell District Football League club after just two rounds.

In a statement from the club, the Tigers said Manning made the decision on Monday to leave the club “of his own volition”.

The Tigers have started the season 0-2, with  losses to Woodend-Hesket and Rockbank.

The team had chances against the Hawks, but the performance against the Rams was one of the club’s worst in years. The Tigers scored just 26 points, the side’s lowest total since 2012.

Manning was in his third season of coaching the Tigers, having previously coached in the Essendon District Football League.

Lancefield  finished eighth the past two seasons with Manning at the helm.

Manning said told Star Weekly he didn’t want to comment on the situation.

Senior player Cameron Wight has been appointed interim senior coach after a meeting with the playing group on Thursday night.

The ruckman is in his second year at the Tigers, after crossing from Romsey.

He spent time in the EDFL, after seven years on the Western Bulldogs’ list. He played 36 AFL games.

The Tigers host Melton Centrals on Saturday.

More to come.
