The Macedon Ranges Running Club (MRRC) is helping the community put its best foot forward, with runs and events for people of all abilities.

MRRC president Craig Thomas said the group was designed to encourage people to be healthy.

“It’s all about getting people physically active in a social setting,” Thomas said.

“Some members are highly competitive while for others, it’s their first time being active in years.

“Our focus is on providing a space for people to get together and set individual goals.”

The group has 620 members spread between different township groups across the shire.

Earlier this month 50 members within the club’s Starting Running Group completed their first 10 kilometre run.

Thomas said he has seen members quickly develop a passion for running.

“Some of our members have gone from complete non-runners to flying over to New York for their first marathon,” he said.

“We also have some very advanced runners that have competed in the Victorian Masters Athletics competition.”

MRRC also has its own annual events, such as the 12 kilometre Christmas in July, which sets off from Trentham railway station.

Thomas said there is something for everyone at the club.

“We have more advanced runners that enjoy doing longer distances around Mount Buffalo,” he said.

“I find some of the runs around the quiet country streets of Gisborne township to be my favourite.

“But I know for some, the coffee after the run on a Sunday is as important as the run itself.’

Membership to the club is $10.
